For a family in Itanagar, Naharlagun or Pasighat, Auli is not a weekend plan. It is a cross-country journey: about 2,100 km by rail to Delhi, then another 500 km of plains and Garhwal highway before you reach the slopes. The trip only works well if each leg is planned to connect with the next, without one late train or delayed flight cutting into your days in Auli.
That is why this package is longer than our usual Auli trips and splits the climb. You start in Haridwar, which is easy to reach from Delhi whether you arrive on the Arunachal AC Express or a flight. On Day 2 you break the mountain drive at Rudraprayag, so no single day in the car runs past six hours on the way up. Three nights in Auli leave room for weather, the slopes, Gorson Bugyal and Joshimath. The final night is in Rishikesh, close to Dehradun airport and the Delhi-bound trains.

- Walking: Gentle slope walks; Gorson Bugyal is the only longer walk, about 3 km each way.
- Terrain: Grass and forest trails in summer; snow and ice from late December, which need grippy boots.
- Altitude: Similar to Tawang town, so many Arunachal travellers will already know how their body handles it.
- Crowds: Heaviest on snow weekends and during the Christmas–New Year week.
- Weather: Nights are cold all year; January nights go well below freezing.

🚆 By Train
The 22411 Arunachal AC Express departs Naharlagun at night on Tuesdays and Saturdays and reaches Anand Vihar Terminal around 11:30 AM on Day 3. It is an all-AC train. From Delhi, continue to Haridwar on an afternoon or evening train; check IRCTC for the best connection on your date. The return 22412 leaves Anand Vihar at 4:45 PM.
✈️ By Flight
Donyi Polo Airport (Hollongi), about 15 km from Itanagar, has a non-stop IndiGo flight to Delhi. From Delhi, take a short connecting flight to Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun, or a 4–5 hour train to Haridwar. Travellers from eastern Arunachal can fly from Dibrugarh, and those in western Arunachal often use Guwahati; neither has a non-stop flight to Dehradun.

Driving from Itanagar is over 2,000 km and not practical for a holiday. The only road leg we recommend is from Haridwar or Dehradun into the mountains, and our driver handles it.
