Frequently Asked Questions — Ex Delhi Char Dham Yatra
What is included in the Ex Delhi Char Dham Yatra package?
The package includes accommodation in double/triple rooms at hotels along the route, breakfast and dinner daily (except Kedarnath), all road transfers by air-conditioned vehicle from Delhi and back, interstate taxes, toll, parking and driver allowances, and special local assistance at all four temples. SnazzyTrips' on-ground team — native to Uttarakhand — accompanies every group for priority temple access and route support.
How long is the Ex Delhi Char Dham Yatra tour?
The standard itinerary is 11 nights and 12 days, covering Delhi → Haridwar → Barkot → Yamunotri → Uttarkashi → Gangotri → Guptkashi → Kedarnath → Badrinath → Rudraprayag → Rishikesh → Haridwar → Delhi. Buffer days are built in at Uttarkashi and Guptkashi to account for road conditions and weather on the Himalayan stretches.
Is a permit required for the Char Dham Yatra from Delhi?
No Inner Line Permit or special government permit is required for any of the four Char Dham shrines. All four — Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath — are open to all Indian nationals without restriction. Biometric registration for Kedarnath is handled by SnazzyTrips as part of the package. If you are booking a helicopter add-on for Kedarnath, those slots must be reserved separately and well in advance.
What is the best time to do the Char Dham Yatra from Delhi?
The two ideal windows are May–June and September–October. May sees the shrines freshly opened after winter, with snow still on the peaks and manageable footfall. September brings the clearest post-monsoon skies and the most stable road conditions after repair work is completed on the Badrinath and Gangotri highways. July–August is the monsoon season — roads are prone to landslides and travel is not recommended unless you are comfortable with frequent delays.
Is trekking mandatory on the Char Dham Yatra?
Two of the four dhams involve walking or trekking. Yamunotri requires a 6 km trek from Janki Chatti (or a pony/palki ride at extra cost). Kedarnath involves a 16–19 km trek from Gaurikund (or a helicopter transfer from Phata/Sersi/Guptkashi, booked separately). Gangotri and Badrinath are fully road-accessible — no trek required. Pony and palki services are available at both Yamunotri and Kedarnath at your own cost.
Can senior citizens or elderly pilgrims do this Char Dham Yatra package?
Yes — with the right arrangements in place. Gangotri and Badrinath are road-accessible and suitable for all ages. For Yamunotri and Kedarnath, palki (palanquin) services are available for those unable to trek. A Kedarnath helicopter add-on is strongly recommended for pilgrims above 65 or those with cardiac or respiratory conditions. SnazzyTrips assesses fitness requirements at the time of booking and can customise the itinerary accordingly. A doctor's fitness certificate is advisable before travel to Kedarnath (3,584 metres).
What is not included in the Char Dham package price?
The following are not part of the base package price: domestic train or flight tickets to/from Delhi; pony, palki, or porter charges at Yamunotri and Kedarnath; helicopter tickets for Kedarnath; VIP darshan slips, temple donations, and special puja or prasad charges; personal expenses, tips, and gratuities; beverages and items of personal nature; GST at 5% on the total package value; and any additional costs arising from weather disruptions, road blockages, landslides, or other circumstances beyond our control.
How far in advance should I book the Ex Delhi Char Dham Yatra?
For May–June departures, book at least 3–4 months in advance. Hotels at Kedarnath and Guptkashi are extremely limited and fill quickly once shrine opening dates are announced on Akshaya Tritiya (usually late April). September departures can sometimes be arranged in 6–8 weeks, but earlier booking always secures better accommodation. If you are adding a Kedarnath helicopter, book that slot the moment it becomes available — it sells out within 48–72 hours of the season opening.
What is the Char Dham Yatra route from Delhi day by day?
The 12-day route runs: Day 1 Delhi → Haridwar · Day 2 Haridwar → Barkot via Mussoorie · Day 3 Barkot → Yamunotri → Barkot · Day 4 Barkot → Uttarkashi · Day 5 Uttarkashi → Gangotri → Uttarkashi · Day 6 Uttarkashi → Guptkashi · Day 7 Guptkashi → Kedarnath · Day 8 Kedarnath → Guptkashi · Day 9 Guptkashi → Badrinath via Joshimath · Day 10 Badrinath → Rudraprayag · Day 11 Rudraprayag → Rishikesh → Haridwar · Day 12 Haridwar → Delhi.
Can I customise the Ex Delhi Char Dham package — shorter duration or helicopter for all dhams?
Yes. SnazzyTrips offers fully customisable Char Dham itineraries — from a Do Dham package covering only Kedarnath and Badrinath (7–8 days), to a full helicopter Char Dham covering all four shrines by air in 5–6 days. Private departures on any date, solo traveller options, and combined packages with Adi Kailash Yatra or Kumaon circuits are all available.
