Auli Tour Package from Assam: Itinerary, Travel Routes & Brahmaputra-to-Himalaya Guide

🏔️ 5N/6D | Rishikesh – Joshimath – Auli – Rudraprayag | 🚗 Pickup: Dehradun Airport, Haridwar Jn, Rishikesh

Planned and reviewed by Govind Bisht, Operations, SnazzyTrips | Last updated: 27 October 2026

From Guwahati, Dibrugarh or Silchar, most Assam families who want snow head to Sikkim or Tawang. Auli is the less obvious choice, and that is part of its appeal: wide ski slopes, an unbroken view of Nanda Devi, and Garhwal pilgrimage towns that feel nothing like the Northeast. The journey is long, though. There is no non-stop flight from any Assam airport to Dehradun, and no train from Guwahati runs straight into Haridwar.

This package is designed to make that distance manageable. You arrive in Dehradun or Haridwar, sleep in Rishikesh, and then climb to Joshimath, not straight to Auli. That one night at around 1,900 m helps your body adjust before going higher. Two nights in Auli cover the slopes and Gorson Bugyal. On the way down, you stop at Rudraprayag, so the final day to the airport is about five hours, short enough to catch an evening flight back towards Guwahati.

SnazzyTrips is a local Uttarakhand-based DMC operating since 2003, with teams in Haldwani and Dehradun. You can see every route and duration on our Auli holiday packages page.

✅ Quick Answer: The SnazzyTrips Auli tour package from Assam is a 5N/6D trip starting at ₹30,999 per couple (Standard tier). Assam travellers usually take a one-stop flight from Guwahati to Dehradun via Delhi, or the daily Dibrugarh Rajdhani to Delhi followed by a train to Haridwar. The route covers Rishikesh, Joshimath, two nights in Auli and Rudraprayag. Flights and trains are extra.

⚖️ Auli vs North Sikkim (Lachung–Yumthang): Which Should Assam Travellers Choose?

The nearby snow trip or the far one

✅ Quick Answer: North Sikkim is closer to Assam and works for a short snow break, but it needs a protected area permit, only registered local taxis can go in, and roads there have been disrupted several times recently. Auli takes longer to reach, but it has no permit requirement, has proper ski slopes and hotels, and adds Garhwal pilgrimage towns. Pick Sikkim for distance, Auli for skiing and a new region.
Factor Auli North Sikkim (Lachung–Yumthang)
Journey from Guwahati 1–2 days via Delhi About 1–1.5 days via Siliguri and Gangtok
Permit for Indians Not required Protected area permit required
Vehicles allowed Any vehicle Only registered local taxis beyond Gangtok
Base altitude Approx. 2,500–3,050 m Lachung approx. 2,650 m
Skiing Yes, snow-dependent No organised skiing
Road reliability Monsoon landslides; usually open in winter Frequent closures after floods and slides
Spiritual sites Haridwar, Rishikesh, Badrinath Buddhist monasteries
Accommodation Resorts and hotels Mostly basic hotels in Lachung
Best for Skiing, new region, seniors Short trip, lower travel cost
🧳 Tip for Assam travellers: If you have already done Gangtok and Lachung, Auli gives you something Sikkim does not: open ski slopes and a stay that does not depend on a daily permit.

🥾 How Difficult is the Auli Trip?

Effort, altitude and comfort

✅ Quick Answer: The Auli trip is easy to moderate. The hardest day is the 8–9 hour drive to Joshimath; after that, drives are shorter. Walking is light unless you do Gorson Bugyal. Because Assam is close to sea level, the Joshimath night is included to help you adjust before Auli’s height of about 2,800 m.
  • Walking: Easy slope walks; Gorson Bugyal is about 3 km each way through forest.
  • Terrain: Grass and forest in summer; snow and ice in winter, so you need grippy boots.
  • Altitude: Mild headache or breathlessness is possible on the first Auli evening; it usually settles.
  • Crowds: Busiest on snow weekends and between Christmas and New Year.
  • Weather: Dry cold, very different from Assam’s humid winter; nights fall below freezing in January.
  • Safety: NH7 has landslide-prone stretches in monsoon; we check every morning before driving.
  • Suitable for: Families, couples, active seniors and children above about 4.
💡 SnazzyTrips Insight: Assam travellers often notice the dry air in Auli more than the cold. Hotels keep heaters running, and we suggest a small room humidifier or a bowl of water near the heater for a better night’s sleep.

❄️ Best Time to Visit Auli from Assam

Match the season to your trip

✅ Quick Answer: Late December to February is the time for snow and skiing, and April to June brings green slopes with clear mountain views. September to November offers crisp, clear weather without snow. Skip July and August, when monsoon rain brings landslides to the Garhwal highway. Snowfall is never guaranteed in any month.
Season Months Auli Conditions Fits Assam Holidays?
Snow season Dec – Feb Snow likely, ski courses run Magh Bihu (mid-January)
Thaw Mar Slushy, quieter –
Spring–summer Apr – Jun Green meadows, mild days Rongali/Bohag Bihu (mid-April), summer vacations
Monsoon Jul – Aug Heavy rain, road risk Avoid
Autumn Sep – Nov Clear skies, cold nights Durga Puja holidays
🧳 Tip for Assam travellers: Magh Bihu falls right in Auli’s snow window, and Durga Puja week usually brings some of the clearest mountain views. Both are busy travel weeks out of Guwahati, so book flights early. For other cold-weather ideas, browse our winter and snowfall trips across Uttarakhand.

✈️ How to Reach Auli from Assam

All routes go through Delhi

✅ Quick Answer: The fastest route is a one-stop flight from Guwahati to Dehradun via Delhi, usually 5–8 hours in total. By rail, the daily 12423 Dibrugarh–New Delhi Rajdhani stops at Guwahati and reaches New Delhi in about 28 hours; from there, trains run to Haridwar. No train goes directly from Guwahati to Haridwar.

✈️ By Flight

Guwahati’s Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport has no non-stop flight to Dehradun, but one-stop options via Delhi run daily. From Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Silchar or Tezpur, first fly to Guwahati, Kolkata or Delhi. Dehradun’s Jolly Grant Airport is about 20 km from Rishikesh.

🚆 By Train

The 12423 Dibrugarh–New Delhi Rajdhani Express runs daily, stopping at Guwahati in the early morning and reaching New Delhi around 10:30 AM on Day 3. Other Rajdhani services (such as 20503) run on selected days. From New Delhi, take an afternoon train to Haridwar; check IRCTC for your date.

🚉 Via Laksar

The weekly 15651 Lohit Express runs from Guwahati to Laksar Jn, about 27 km from Haridwar, taking roughly 38 hours. It saves a change in Delhi, but runs only once a week, so check the current day on IRCTC.

🌊 Via Rishikesh

Many Assam travellers prefer Rishikesh as the first stop because it is close to both Dehradun Airport and Haridwar station. If you want an extra riverside day before the mountains, see our riverside Rishikesh packages.

🚆 Train vs Flight from Assam

Factor Rajdhani + Delhi–Haridwar Train Flight via Delhi

Approximate; check IRCTC/airline for live fares. Excludes ski lessons, chairlift tickets and personal costs.

🤝 Package vs Planning It Yourself

What changes when a local team runs it

✅ Quick Answer: A package makes the most sense on this route. Coming from Assam, you do not know the Garhwal roads, one-way taxis up to Joshimath are expensive, and hotels in Auli fill up fast during snow weeks. A local DMC provides one vehicle for the whole trip, books the Joshimath and Rudraprayag halts, and re-plans if a road closes.
Factor SnazzyTrips Package Planning It Yourself
Acclimatisation halt ✔ Joshimath night built in Easy to skip by mistake
Vehicle ✔ One car and driver, all 6 days Separate taxis for each leg
Return timing ✔ Rudraprayag halt protects your flight Long final day, missed-flight risk
Snow-week hotels ✔ Blocked in advance Often full
Road closures ✔ Re-routed by local team Handled alone
Support ✔ 24x7 phone line None

⭐ What is the SnazzyTrips Experience Like?

On the ground, day to day

  • Stay: Checked hotels in Rishikesh, Joshimath, Auli and Rudraprayag; Auli rooms come with heaters in winter.
  • Food: Breakfast and dinner daily. Rice and dal are available everywhere; chicken is available at many Joshimath and Auli hotels, but fish is rare in the hills, and Rishikesh is largely vegetarian.
  • Transport: One private vehicle (sedan, SUV or Tempo Traveller) with a driver used to NH7.
  • Support: Our Dehradun team watches road and weather updates and calls you the evening before each drive.

SnazzyTrips is a Leading Uttarakhand DMC operating since 2003, with teams in Haldwani and Dehradun, 50+ destinations, 150+ verified local partners and 20,000+ families hosted. Our average rating is 4.6/5 from verified traveller reviews.

💡 SnazzyTrips Insight: We schedule the Day 6 drive from Rudraprayag, not from Auli, because a 9–10 hour drive on departure day is the most common cause of missed return flights from Dehradun.

🏨 Stay Options and Package Cost

👨‍👩‍👧 Who Should Book This Package?

A good fit, and who should skip it

  • Assam families who have done Sikkim or Tawang and want a new Himalayan region
  • First-time skiers looking for proper slopes
  • Couples who want a quiet resort stay with big mountain views
  • Seniors who prefer a gradual climb with an acclimatisation night
  • Travellers on a fixed 7–8 day leave who will fly both ways
  • ⚠️ Not ideal for: travellers hoping for guaranteed snow, anyone with serious heart or lung conditions, or those wanting the Badrinath darshan as the main focus (a longer Badrinath-centred trip suits them better).

🏔️ Peaks You Can See from Auli

Know what you are looking at

Peak Approx. Height Where to See It
Nanda Devi 7,816 m Upper slopes, Gorson Bugyal
Kamet 7,756 m Upper slopes on clear mornings
Mana Parvat 7,272 m Gorson Bugyal
Trishul 7,120 m Main slopes, artificial lake
Dronagiri 7,066 m Main slopes
Hathi Parvat 6,727 m Most of Auli
Neelkanth (Badrinath) 6,596 m Upper slopes, clear days

Heights approximate. Views depend on weather; mornings are usually clearest.

💡 SnazzyTrips Insight: Ask your driver or hotel staff to name the peaks with you on your first clear morning. Clouds usually build up by midday, and that early window is often the best chance for photos.

🎒 Packing List

From humid Assam to dry Himalayan cold

  • Thermals (2 sets) and a down jacket for December–February
  • Fleece and a light jacket for autumn and spring
  • Waterproof shoes with good grip
  • Woollen cap, gloves, warm socks
  • Rich moisturiser and lip balm (the air in Auli is very dry)
  • Sunglasses and SPF 50 sunscreen
  • Personal medicines and motion-sickness tablets
  • Power bank
  • Reusable water bottle
  • Small packets of familiar snacks for the drive days
🧳 Tip: Winter clothing in Assam is usually made for damp cold. For Auli you need wind-proof layers, so check that your outer jacket blocks wind.

🩺 How to Prepare for the Auli Trip

A short checklist before you leave

  • Fitness: Walk 30–40 minutes daily for two weeks if you plan to do Gorson Bugyal.
  • Health: Travellers with BP, heart or asthma issues should consult a doctor before going above 2,500 m.
  • Documents: Carry Aadhaar or another government ID for flights, trains and hotels.
  • Hydration: Drink more water than usual in Joshimath and Auli; dry air makes you lose water fast.
  • Temple visits: For Narsingh Temple and the Rishikesh ghats, wear modest clothing.
🧳 Tip for Assam travellers: If you are taking the Rajdhani, arrive in Delhi a day early during December and January. Winter fog across north India often delays trains by several hours.
