Auli Tour Package from Goa: Itinerary, Travel Routes & Auli-plus-Chopta Snow Guide

🏔️ 6N/7D | Rishikesh – Chopta – Auli – Rishikesh | 🚗 Pickup: Jolly Grant Airport (Dehradun), Yog Nagari Rishikesh, Haridwar Jn

Planned and reviewed by Govind Bisht, Operations, SnazzyTrips | Last updated: 27 October 2026

Goa to Auli is one of the biggest climate jumps you can make in India: from a coast where winter means 30°C afternoons to slopes where January nights drop well below freezing. Since you’re travelling more than 1,700 km to get there, this package makes the most of the trip by covering two Garhwal high points instead of one. You stay a night in Chopta, the meadow base for Tungnath, then cross over the hills to Auli for three nights on the ski slopes.

The route is a loop, not an out-and-back. You go up the Mandakini valley to Chopta, cross through Gopeshwar into the Alaknanda valley, and come back down the Badrinath highway. That way, you don’t repeat the same road twice. Flyers connect via Delhi, Mumbai or Bengaluru to Dehradun. Train travellers can take the weekly Thiruvananthapuram North–Yog Nagari Rishikesh Superfast from Madgaon, which ends in Rishikesh in the early afternoon. When winter snow closes the Chopta road, we switch to a lower route, explained below.

SnazzyTrips is a local Uttarakhand-based DMC operating since 2003, with teams in Haldwani and Dehradun. For Auli-only trips and other durations, see our Auli packages.

✅ Quick Answer: The SnazzyTrips Auli tour package from Goa is a 6N/7D trip starting at ₹34,999 per couple (Standard tier). Goa travellers fly one-stop to Dehradun or take the weekly superfast train from Madgaon to Yog Nagari Rishikesh. The route covers Rishikesh, a night in Chopta, three nights in Auli and a final Rishikesh night. Flights and trains are not included.

⚖️ Auli-Only or Auli + Chopta: Which Should Goa Travellers Choose?

Deciding which version fits

✅ Quick Answer: Choose Auli + Chopta (this package) if you’re coming all the way from Goa and want the most from the journey: two mountain landscapes, an optional climb to Tungnath, and a loop route. Choose an Auli-only trip if you have fewer days, are travelling with very young children or seniors who dislike long drives, or care only about skiing.
Factor Auli + Chopta (This Package) Auli-Only
Duration 6N/7D 4N/5D – 5N/6D
Landscapes Two valleys, meadows and ski slopes One valley, ski slopes
Optional trek Tungnath (about 3.5 km each way) Gorson Bugyal only
Drive pattern Loop, no repeated road Same highway up and down
Stay comfort One simpler night in Chopta Hotels throughout
Winter reliability Chopta night may switch to Ukhimath Unaffected
Best for Couples, friends, active families Short trips, small kids, skiing focus
🧳 Tip for Goa travellers: If you’re flying 4–5 hours with a connection to get here, adding Chopta costs only one extra night but gives you a second mountain region. That’s usually good value.

❄️ The Winter Version of This Route

What changes from December to March

✅ Quick Answer: Between roughly December and March, snow often blocks the Ukhimath–Chopta–Gopeshwar road and the Tungnath temple is closed. In that period, we replace the Chopta night with Ukhimath, a lower town on the Mandakini side, and reach Auli via Rudraprayag instead. You still get three nights in Auli and the snow you came for.
Item Summer–Autumn Version Winter Version
Night 2 Chopta (~2,680 m) Ukhimath (lower town)
Day 3 route to Auli Chopta–Gopeshwar crossing Ukhimath–Rudraprayag–Karnaprayag
Tungnath Optional, temple open Not possible (temple closed, snow)
Snow chance in Auli Low (Oct–Nov) to none High (late Dec–Feb)
Day 3 drive time 4–5 hours 5–6 hours
💡 SnazzyTrips Insight: We confirm the Chopta road status 48 hours before Day 2. If it looks risky, we switch to the winter version in advance rather than turning back on the road.

✈️ Getting from Goa to the Himalaya

Flights, the Madgaon train, and how they compare

✅ Quick Answer: The fastest option is a one-stop flight from Goa (Mopa or Dabolim) to Dehradun via Delhi, Mumbai or Bengaluru, usually 4–6 hours in total. The rail option is the weekly 22659 Superfast, which stops at Madgaon around 1 AM and reaches Yog Nagari Rishikesh around 1:40 PM the next day. Our vehicle meets you at either point.

✈️ By Flight

There is currently no non-stop flight between Goa and Dehradun; an earlier IndiGo service from Mopa has stopped. One-stop connections via Delhi run daily and are usually the quickest. Both Manohar International (Mopa) and Dabolim have options, so compare both.

🚆 By Train from Madgaon

The 22659 Thiruvananthapuram North–Yog Nagari Rishikesh Superfast Express runs once a week along the Konkan route and halts at Madgaon in the early hours. It reaches Yog Nagari Rishikesh around 1:40 PM the following day. The return 22660 leaves Yog Nagari Rishikesh around 6:15 AM, also weekly. Check current days on IRCTC.

🔁 Via Delhi by Train

On other days, the daily Goa Express (12779) runs from Vasco da Gama to Hazrat Nizamuddin, and you can continue to Haridwar or Rishikesh. Add a night in Delhi if the timings don’t connect. To add more Ganga-side time to your trip, consider a longer Rishikesh stay.

🚆 Train vs Flight from Goa

Factor 22659 Superfast (Madgaon) One-stop Flight
Journey time About 36–37 hrs About 4–6 hrs
Frequency Weekly Daily
Approx. one-way fare per person Sleeper ₹850–1,000; 3AC ₹2,200–2,500 ₹5,500–15,000
Arrival Yog Nagari Rishikesh, early afternoon Jolly Grant, Dehradun
Flexibility Fixed weekly dates Any day
Best for Budget, slow travellers Most Goa travellers

All fares approximate; check IRCTC and airline websites.

🥾 Effort Rating, Day by Day

How hard each day is

✅ Quick Answer: Overall, this trip is moderate. Two long drive days (Day 2 and Day 6) are the main effort, and Tungnath on Day 3 is optional and strenuous. Auli days are easy to moderate. Chopta (~2,680 m) helps you adjust before Auli, which is useful for travellers coming from sea level in Goa.
Day Activity Effort Note
1 Arrival, ghat walk Easy Rest after travel
2 7–8 hr hill drive Moderate Motion-sickness tablets help
3 Tungnath (optional) + 4–5 hr drive Easy without trek / Hard with trek Trek only if fit; start by 6 AM
4 Slopes and lake Easy Walk at your own pace
5 Gorson Bugyal / ski lesson Moderate About 6 km round trip walk
6 9–10 hr drive Moderate Long but comfortable seating
7 Transfer Easy –
  • Suitable for: Couples, friends, active families and fit seniors. Families with children under about 5, or seniors with mobility issues, may prefer an Auli-only trip.

🌡️ Weather Shock: Planning by Month

Goa’s warm months vs Garhwal’s cold ones

✅ Quick Answer: Late December to February is best for snow in Auli, though Chopta switches to the winter version. April to June gives green meadows, an open Tungnath temple and a break from Goa’s pre-monsoon heat. September to November brings the clearest views. July and August are risky on both sides: Goa’s monsoon and Garhwal landslides.
Months Auli Chopta / Tungnath Goa Traveller Note
Dec – Feb Snow likely, skiing Winter version (Ukhimath) Many in Goa’s tourism trade are busiest now; plan around it
Mar Thaw Road may still be snowy Good shoulder month
Apr – Jun Green slopes Open, temple usually from late Apr/May Escape Goa’s May heat
Jul – Aug Heavy rain Landslide risk Avoid
Sep – Nov Clear skies Open until temple closes Best views of the year
🧳 Tip for Goa travellers: If you work in Goa’s December–January tourist season, February still offers good snow chances in Auli and is usually less crowded. For more cold-season trips, browse our snowfall holidays in Uttarakhand.
