About Jim Corbett National Park

Jim Corbett National Park is India's oldest national park, established in 1936 as Hailey National Park and renamed after legendary hunter and conservationist Jim Corbett in 1957.

The park became the first reserve under Project Tiger in 1973 — India's flagship tiger conservation programme. Located across the Nainital and Pauri Garhwal districts of Uttarakhand, the park ranges between 400 to 1,100 metres in altitude.

The Ramganga River flows through the reserve creating the famous Ramganga Reservoir — one of India's finest wildlife observation locations.

Why Kolkata Travelers Love Jim Corbett

Jim Corbett is one of the most loved wildlife destinations among Bengali travelers for several reasons. The direct train connectivity from Howrah makes travel convenient without flights, while the 4-day itinerary perfectly fits long weekends and school holidays.

The safari experience is genuinely world-class and offers something completely different from typical hill station holidays. Dense sal forests, river valleys, open grasslands and frequent wildlife sightings create an unforgettable experience for first-time safari travelers.

Many families from Kolkata experience their first real jungle safari at Corbett — and it consistently becomes one of their most memorable travel journeys ever.

Bird watching here is also exceptional with kingfishers, ospreys, storks, and eagles commonly seen.

Safari returns by 11:00 AM. Afternoon at leisure — resort swimming pool, rest, or optional visit to Garjia Devi Temple located on a rock island in the Kosi River, 15 km from Ramnagar. This is a popular local temple and a beautiful natural setting worth visiting.
