Kumaon Offbeat Tour Package from Ahmedabad | Munsiyari Kausani 7 Days
Kumaon Offbeat Tour Package from Ahmedabad
The Kumaon Offbeat Tour Package from Ahmedabad is a complete 7 Days / 6 Nights deep Himalayan circuit through two of Uttarakhand's most extraordinary and least-visited destinations — Munsiyari at 2,200 metres in the high Kumaon Himalayas and Kausani at 1,890 metres on the Kumaon ridge — combined into a single seamless journey that delivers one of the most authentic Himalayan experiences available from Ahmedabad.
Two destinations. Two completely different Himalayan personalities. One unforgettable Kumaon adventure.
Munsiyari — known as the "Place of Snow" — sits at the base of the magnificent Panchachuli glacier system in the Johar Valley. The five Panchachuli peaks rise dramatically above the valley, creating one of the most spectacular mountain panoramas in India. For Ahmedabad travelers seeking the atmosphere of the high Himalayas without the challenges of a technical expedition, Munsiyari offers a rare opportunity to experience it directly from the town itself.
Kausani, famously described by Mahatma Gandhi as the "Switzerland of India", offers a completely different Himalayan experience. Perched on a pine-covered ridge above the Kosi Valley, Kausani delivers a breathtaking 300-km panorama featuring Nanda Devi, Trisul, Panchachuli, and numerous other Himalayan peaks. The peaceful ridge walks, sunrise viewpoints, and meditative mountain atmosphere make it one of Kumaon's most inspiring destinations.
As a DMC in Uttarakhand with 21+ years of Kumaon ground experience, SnazzyTrips has been curating Munsiyari and Kausani journeys for Ahmedabad travelers for over two decades — coordinating Johar Valley logistics, Khaliya Top trekking schedules, Kausani sunrise experiences, and the complex mountain operations that transform a good Himalayan holiday into an exceptional one.

About Munsiyari — The Last Village of Kumaon
Nestled at an altitude of 2,200 metres in the Johar Valley of Pithoragarh district, Munsiyari is one of the most remote and spectacular mountain destinations in Uttarakhand. Located near the Indo-Tibetan frontier, it serves as the last major settlement before the high Himalayan glaciers and ancient trade routes leading toward Tibet.
The name "Munsiyari" translates to "Place of Snow" in the local Johari dialect. Towering above the town is the magnificent Panchachuli massif, a group of five snow-covered Himalayan peaks ranging between 6,312 and 6,904 metres. According to local legend, these peaks represent the five cooking hearths of the Pandavas during their final journey into the Himalayas.
ποΈ Panchachuli Peaks
- Panchachuli I – 6,355 m
- Panchachuli II – 6,904 m (Highest Peak)
- Panchachuli III – 6,312 m
- Panchachuli IV – 6,334 m
- Panchachuli V – 6,437 m
Munsiyari is also the gateway to some of Kumaon's most celebrated Himalayan trekking routes, including the Milam Glacier, Ralam Glacier, and Khaliya Top. Among these, Khaliya Top is the most accessible, offering panoramic Himalayan views from approximately 3,500 metres without requiring camping or technical trekking experience.
Another highlight of the region is the Munsiyari Tribal Heritage Museum, which showcases the history and traditions of the indigenous Shauka community. The museum preserves artifacts, traditional attire, trade records, photographs, and cultural objects from the era when Johar Valley traders conducted commerce with Tibet across the Himalayan passes.
Today, Munsiyari remains one of Uttarakhand's most authentic Himalayan destinations — offering dramatic mountain scenery, traditional Kumaoni culture, glacier-fed valleys, and a peaceful atmosphere far removed from the state's mainstream tourist circuits.
About Kausani — The Switzerland of India
Perched at an altitude of 1,890 metres in the Bageshwar district of Uttarakhand, Kausani is one of the most scenic hill stations in the Kumaon Himalayas. Surrounded by pine forests and overlooking the Kosi Valley, the town is renowned for its breathtaking 300-km Himalayan panorama featuring iconic peaks such as Nanda Devi, Trisul, Nanda Kot, and Panchachuli.
Kausani occupies a narrow forested ridge between the Kosi and Pindar river valleys, creating one of the finest sunrise viewpoints in northern India. The town's unique geography allows visitors to witness the first rays of sunlight illuminate the Himalayan snow range long before the valleys below awaken.
π Himalayan Panorama Highlights
- Nanda Devi – 7,816 m
- Trisul – 7,120 m
- Nanda Kot – 6,861 m
- Panchachuli Group
- Numerous peaks across the Kumaon Himalayas
π Mahatma Gandhi's Kausani Stay
Mahatma Gandhi arrived in Kausani on 16 June 1929 for a planned two-day visit but was so captivated by the Himalayan landscape that he extended his stay to fourteen days. During this period, he wrote the preface to his famous commentary on the Bhagavad Gita, later published as Anasakti Yoga.
The legacy of Gandhi's visit gave Kausani its enduring title as the "Switzerland of India". Today, visitors can explore the historic Anasakti Ashram, where Gandhi stayed, reflected, and wrote while overlooking the Himalayan snow peaks that inspired him.
For travelers from Gujarat, Kausani offers a unique connection to Gandhi's life and philosophy. The peaceful atmosphere of the ashram, combined with the extraordinary mountain scenery, creates a destination that blends natural beauty, history, and spirituality in equal measure.
Today, Kausani remains one of Kumaon's most peaceful mountain retreats — famous for sunrise viewpoints, pine forests, tea gardens, Gandhian heritage, and some of the most spectacular Himalayan panoramas accessible without trekking.

Tour Plans
Day 1
Arrival from Ahmedabad | Delhi to Kathgodam | Night Transfer Begins
Depart Ahmedabad by morning flight. Arrive Delhi. Transfer to Delhi Anand Vihar or Old Delhi Railway Station for the Ranikhet Express or Shatabdi to Kathgodam. The train passes through the Gangetic plain and the Shivalik foothills as Kathgodam approaches — the last rail station before the Kumaon mountains begin.
Arrive Kathgodam. Our driver waiting with name placard. Transfer begins — the Kumaon road climbing immediately from the Shivalik foothills through Bhimtal, Almora, and the first Kumaon ridge approach. For Ahmedabad families making this journey for the first time, the specific quality of the Kumaon mountain road — narrower than the Garhwal highway, quieter, with the rhododendron and oak forest closing over the road at higher elevations — announces immediately that this is a different kind of Himalayan circuit from the standard Uttarakhand tourist routes.
Overnight en-route or at Almora depending on train arrival time.
ποΈ Overnight — Almora or en-route halt
Day 2
Almora to Munsiyari | The Kumaon Deep Road | Arrival at the Johar Valley
Full day mountain road to Munsiyari — Almora to Munsiyari approximately 200 km, 8 hours via Bageshwar, Tejam, and the Johar Valley approach.
The road from Almora passes through Bageshwar — the sacred confluence of the Saryu and Gomati rivers, and Uttarakhand's own Allahabad in miniature — before climbing into the Pithoragarh district and the Kali valley gorge. The road narrows and the mountains grow larger as the valley deepens. By the time the cab passes Tejam and the Johar Valley opens — the Panchachuli peaks appearing suddenly above the valley head as the final approach begins — the Ahmedabad traveler has been inside the Kumaon mountain landscape for 6 hours and the deepening immersion is complete.
En-route stop — Birthi Falls — 126 metres, visible from the road, 10-minute approach on foot. For Ahmedabad families seeing a high Himalayan waterfall at full flow for the first time, Birthi is the specific scale introduction that Kempty Falls and Neer Garh cannot provide.
Arrive Munsiyari. Check in to hotel — Panchachuli-facing room confirmed. Step outside. The Panchachuli five peaks above the Johar Valley — enormous, white, and completely filling the northern sky even at late afternoon in the day's reducing light. Dinner at hotel.
5:15am alarm set for tomorrow.
ποΈ Overnight — Munsiyari, Panchachuli-facing room
Day 3
Munsiyari Dawn | Khaliya Top Trek | Panchachuli Full Day
5:15am wake-up.
Step outside. The Munsiyari meadow ridge at first light — the Johar Valley in mist below, the Panchachuli peaks turning from dark grey to white to gold above the valley in the pre-dawn sequence. For Ahmedabad families for whom this is the first Himalayan dawn of their lives, the Panchachuli at 5:30am from the Munsiyari meadow is the moment the entire 1,400 km journey from Gujarat was for.
After the dawn panorama — breakfast at hotel.
Morning — Khaliya Top trek (optional, recommended for fit families and couples). The trail climbs from Munsiyari town through the oak and rhododendron forest — the Panchachuli visible intermittently through the canopy as the altitude increases — to the open meadow at 3,500 metres. From Khaliya Top on a clear day: Panchachuli to the northeast, Nanda Devi group to the west, the full Milam Glacier valley visible to the east, and the Johar Valley floor 1,300 metres below. Total round trek: 10–12 km, 4–5 hours. Guide available through SnazzyTrips.
For Ahmedabad families who opt out of Khaliya Top — Thamri Kund forest walk (6–7 km, 2–3 hours through the rhododendron forest) as the half-day alternative.
Afternoon — Munsiyari town walk. Munsiyari Tribal Heritage Museum — Shauka community culture documentation, traditional dress, trans-Himalayan trade photographs. Nanda Devi Temple on the Munsiyari ridge — the local Kumaon sacred site with the Panchachuli visible directly above.
Evening — second Panchachuli sunset from the meadow. Dinner at hotel.
ποΈ Overnight — Munsiyari
Day 4
Munsiyari Second Full Day | Meadow Walks | Valley Exploration
Full second day at Munsiyari.
Early morning — second Panchachuli dawn from the meadow. The second Munsiyari dawn, for Ahmedabad travelers who have completed one full day in the Johar Valley and processed the Panchachuli experience — the mountains no longer surprising but now familiar in the specific way that a Himalayan landscape becomes familiar after 24 hours — carries a different and deeper quality from the first morning's astonishment.
Morning — Kalamuni Top — the ridge above Munsiyari at 2,600 metres with the Panchachuli to the north and the Nanda Devi range to the west visible simultaneously. Short forest road approach by cab followed by a 30-minute walk to the ridge viewpoint. The Kalamuni ridge at midmorning, when the Panchachuli is still clear and the valley below is filling with the day's warmth — is the Munsiyari panorama that most closely approximates what the first explorers of the Johar Valley described in 19th-century Himalayan literature.
Afternoon — Darkot village — the traditional Shauka settlement 3 km from Munsiyari where the trans-Himalayan trading community still maintains its architectural and cultural identity. For Ahmedabad families interested in Himalayan indigenous culture, Darkot is the living heritage counterpart to the Tribal Heritage Museum.
Optional — Madkot hot springs — 24 km from Munsiyari in the Gori Ganga valley. Natural sulphurous hot spring in the river gorge. For Ahmedabad travelers who have completed two days of Kumaon mountain walking, the Madkot hot spring is the specific physical comfort that no other activity on this circuit provides.
Evening at hotel. Final Panchachuli sunset.
ποΈ Overnight — Munsiyari
Day 5
Munsiyari to Kausani | The Kumaon Ridge Road | Bageshwar Sacred Circuit
Morning departure from Munsiyari after final Panchachuli dawn. Transfer to Kausani — approximately 200 km, 7–8 hours via Bageshwar.
The Munsiyari-to-Kausani road is the finest mountain road on this entire circuit — the Johar Valley descent, the Kali river gorge, the Bageshwar sacred confluence, and the gradual western shift from the raw, high-Himalayan character of Pithoragarh district into the more cultivated, culturally layered Kumaon landscape of Bageshwar and Kausani.
En-route — Baijnath Temple complex — 12th-century Nagara-style Shiva temples on the Gomti river bank near Bageshwar. One of Uttarakhand's finest temple complexes and the most significant pre-medieval sacred architecture in the Kumaon Himalayas. For Gujarat travelers familiar with the temple architecture of Solanki-period Gujarat, the Baijnath complex carries a specific and surprising architectural resonance.
Rudradhari Falls and Caves — the waterfall-and-cave complex near Kausani with the Kumaon forest above and the Kosi valley below. A 45-minute forest walk from the road delivers the specific Kausani forest-and-water combination that the town ridge itself, focused exclusively on the northern panorama, does not provide.
Arrive Kausani. Check in to ridge-facing hotel. First view of the Kausani Himalayan panorama — Trisul, Nanda Devi, and the full snow range appearing above the pine forest on the northern horizon at the moment the hotel room window is opened.
5:30am alarm set for tomorrow.
ποΈ Overnight — Kausani, ridge-facing room
Day 6
Kausani Sunrise Ridge | Anasakti Ashram | Kausani Full Day
5:00am wake-up.
Depart for the Kausani ridge path by 5:15am.
The Kausani ridge at 5:30am — pine forest on both sides of the path, the eastern sky beginning to lighten above the snow range, the valley below still in complete darkness. The Himalayan panorama assembles itself peak by peak as the dawn advances: Trisul first — the three-peaked summit catching the first gold above everything else — then Nanda Devi, then Nanda Kot, then Panchachuli appearing at the eastern end of the range above the Bageshwar valley. The full 300-km snow wall in the first light, from a pine forest ridge in the Kumaon foothills, at an altitude reachable by anyone who can walk 10 minutes from a hotel room.
Mahatma Gandhi stood at this specific panorama in the morning of June 17, 1929, and did not leave for two weeks.
After the sunrise — breakfast at hotel.
Morning — Anasakti Ashram — Gandhi's 1929 Kausani residence. The preserved room, the personal items, the verandah facing the Himalayan range, and the library of Gandhi literature maintained by the ashram residents. For Ahmedabad families — from the state that carries Gandhi's most permanent historical presence — the Anasakti Ashram at Kausani is the specific sacred-historical site on this circuit that no other Indian state's travelers experience with quite the same personal weight.
Afternoon — Kausani tea gardens — the Uttarakhand Tea Development Board gardens on the southern slope below the Kausani ridge. Kausani green tea is among the finest produced in the Kumaon Himalayas. The tea garden walk in the afternoon, the Himalayan panorama visible above the plantation rows, and the tea tasting at the garden factory — the specific agricultural-Himalayan combination that differentiates Kausani from every other Kumaon ridge destination.
Second sunset on the Kausani ridge. The Himalayan snow range in the late afternoon light — the shadows lengthening on the glacier faces, the sky above the range deepening toward the brief Himalayan dusk. The last evening on the Kumaon ridge before the return journey to the Gujarat plains.
Dinner at hotel.
ποΈ Overnight — Kausani
Day 7
Departure | Kausani to Kathgodam | Return to Ahmedabad
Final Kausani sunrise walk at 5:30am — the last Himalayan dawn of the circuit, the last 300-km snow range in the first light before the road descends toward the Shivalik foothills and the Gujarat return journey begins.
Breakfast at hotel. Check out. Transfer to Kathgodam — approximately 170 km, 5–6 hours via Almora and the Kumaon foothills road. Delhi flight to Ahmedabad.
The Ahmedabad return flight carries the specific quality of a completed deep Kumaon circuit — the Panchachuli at 5:30am above the Johar Valley mist, the Khaliya Top meadow at 3,500 metres, the Baijnath temples on the Gomti river, the Kausani ridge at dawn with Trisul catching the first gold, and the Anasakti Ashram verandah facing the 300-km snow range. These are the Munsiyari and Kausani memories that Gujarat travelers carry home most permanently — and the ones they describe first when anyone asks where they went in the Himalayas.
Transfer time: Kausani to Kathgodam — 5–6 hours
βοΈ Depart for Ahmedabad via Delhi
